GUATEMALA - A temporary fishing ban has been put in place on yellowfin tuna in Guatemala.

The ban starts on January 1 and will end on February 28, 2013, and is set to be in three areas of the Atlantic Ocean, reports Prensa Libre.

The species covered by the ban are yellowfin tuna and paturo (Thunnus obesus), the ministry said.

This provision is made to protect the conservation of these species based on the multi-year conservation and management measures for the years from 2012 to 2015, according to the International Convention for the Conservation of Atlantic Atul.
