Total Icelandic Catch Decreased in March

ICELAND - Total catch of Icelandic vessels in March 2013 was 207,026 tonnes compared to 193,340 tonnes in March 2012, reports Statistics Iceland.

Demersal species accounted for 45,100 tonnes, cod nearly 26,000 tonnes, haddock nearly 5,000 tonnes, redfish 6,100 tonnes and saithe nearly 3,700 tonnes.

The pelagic catch was 158,300 tonnes, thereof capelin 157,400 tonnes, herring 35 tonnes and blue whiting 939 tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch decreased by 6.1 per cent in March 2013 compared with March 2012.
