For the year to date, Norwegian seafood exports total NOK 36.1 billion, an increase of NOK 3.6 billion or 11 per cent, according to the latest figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.
“A reduction in the volume of exports, combined with strong demand for Norwegian Salmon and Norwegian Fjord Trout, is keeping Norwegian Salmon prices high and accounts for the growth in the value of Norwegian seafood exports,” says Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Council.
Growth in Norwegian Salmon exports
The value of exports of Norwegian Salmon in August totalled NOK 3.3 billion. This is an increase of NOK 795 million or 31 per cent compared to August last year. This year to date, the value of Norwegian Salmon exports totals NOK 24 billion, an increase of NOK 5.2 billion or 28 per cent. In August, the average price for fresh whole Norwegian Salmon was NOK 41.45 compared to NOK 28.35 in August 2012. France, Poland and Russia were the biggest importers of Norwegian Salmon.
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in August increased in value by NOK 50 million or 31 per cent to a total of NOK 214 million. For the year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totals NOK 1.4 billion, an increase of NOK 330 million compared to the same period in 2012. The biggest importers of Norwegian Fjord Trout are Russia and Belarus.
Exports of herring and mackerel down
Norwegian herring exports fell in value in August by NOK 34 million or 18 per cent to a total of NOK 155 million. For the year to date, the value of herring exports totals NOK 1.6 billion, down by NOK 1 billion or 40 per cent compared to the same period last year. The biggest markets for Norwegian herring are Russia and Germany.
Exports of mackerel in August were down in value by NOK 21 million to a total of NOK 41.5 million. This year to date, mackerel exports are down in value by NOK 455 million to a total of NOK 763 million. The most important markets for mackerel export are Russia and China.
Exports of clipfish down, salted fish stable
Clipfish exports fell in value in August by NOK 13 million to a total of NOK 278 million. A breakdown of this figure shows that Norwegian Cod clipfish accounted for NOK 154 million and Norwegian Saithe clipfish NOK 99 million, with the remainder accounted for by ling, torsk and other groundfish. The biggest market for Norwegian Cod clipfish is Portugal, while Brazil is the biggest market for Norwegian Saithe clipfish.
August exports of salted fish including fillets totalled NOK 32 million, on a par with August last year. Of this figure, Norwegian Cod accounted for NOK 26 million, ling NOK 4 million and Norwegian Saithe NOK 2.6 million. Portugal is the biggest market for salted fish from Norway.
Growth in fresh and frozen Norwegian cod exports
In August, exports of fresh Norwegian Cod including fillets increased in value by NOK 7 million to a total of NOK 45 million. In the same month, exports of frozen Norwegian Cod including fillets were up by NOK 33 million to a total of NOK 112 million.
