Seafood Scotland Helping Scottish Businesses to Develop

SCOTLAND, UK - Seafood Scotland, in its role as delivery partner for Seafish in Scotland, recently hosted Seafish Market Analyst Julia Brooks during a tour of the Scottish industry. The visit was part of an ongoing programme to assist businesses to make the most of the tools available to them through the two organisations.

Nolan Seafoods, Joseph Robertson, IFC/NorSea, Associated Seafoods, Cluny Seafoods, MacDuff Shellfish and Young’s Fraserbugh, all based in the northeast of Scotland, benefited from the visit.

Julia explained the role the Seafish Insight team plays in providing a range of up-to-date information, with more than 240 reports produced every year highlighting GB retail data, GB foodservice data, UK and global trade date, UK landing data and market trend summary reports for different seafood sectors.

A bespoke Insight service is also available for companies, to help them focus clearly on information relevant to their business and target markets.

“This was a fantastic opportunity co-ordinated by Seafood Scotland for me to meet Scottish businesses. I was able to explain the information and the different levels of analysis that are available from the Seafish Insight team whilst gaining valuable feedback for future work,” said Julia.

For Doug Rennie, of Nolan Seafoods, Julia’s visit provided a timely insight into the type of data that is available to assist the company develop markets for its new ‘Pure Scottish’ brand.

“We will be delighted to use the Seafish analytical tools and data that can be provided, and it’s great to have a one stop shop when searching for relevant information,” he said.

Victor West, MD of Associated Seafoods also found Julia’s presentation to be beneficial.

“Having instant access to targeted market information and insight is one of the most valuable tools any company can have, and we were pleased to learn how to access this and tailor it to our needs,” he said.

Philip Andrade of International Fish Canners was highly impressed by the available information.

“We found the data to be of great value to our business, especially the provision of bespoke reports, and Seafish are providing a service that we could not afford to do on our own,” he stated.

“The visit worked extremely well and all the companies expressed an intention to work more closely with the Insight team in future, to reduce the overall cost of their market research needs and ensure they are always working with the latest information.
