Mark Gibson, of WWF, said that introducing an element of responsibility on fishermen through the assignment of well-defined rights, helps generate incentives to be partakers in the planning and management of fisheries in the medium and long term.
Systems said Rights-Based Management can strengthen incentives for responsible management among fishermen, to ensure management practices respect the ecosystem.
Molke Mendoza, director of Fisheries Resources Management, said the Deputy Minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries, through the Monitoring Control System Satellite, performs appropriate supervision of vessels, meaning offenders can be punished.
The workshop culminated in an open meeting and exchange of views, which will strengthen the management of fisheries in Ecuador and help achieve eco-certification.
