Piura Exported $673.4 million in Seafood to US in 2011

PERU - Fish exports from the Piura region increased 48 per cent between January and November 2011 over the same period of 2010 to reach US$673.4 million, according to the Service Manager and Extractive Industries Association of Exporters (ADEX), Percy Sanchez Paredes.

He explained that the total, US$172.7 million was generated by shipments under the category of "Traditional Fishing", that includes products such as flour, fat and fish oil. While the subsector "Fishing" (scallops, fish meat, etc.) sold for US$500.7 million.

With regard to export destinations, China led the ranking (US$223.7 million). It was followed by the US (US$64.7 million), South Korea (US$61.2 million), Spain (US$60.9 million), among others. In total, Peru exported to 80 markets.

The main exporting companies were Alicorp SA, SAC Seafrost, CNC, Pesquera Hayduk SA, Proanco SRL, Austral Group SAA, among others.
