Mussel Fishing Ban to Commence in Venezuela

VENEZUELA - Starting from 1 December 2013 until 15 February, 2014 fishing for mussels is closed.

The Bolivarian Government, through the Socialist Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Insopesca) ensures the sustainable use of marine resources through temporary fishing bans.

Mussel is one of the most sought after species in the north-central coast of the country and due to its high price in the local markets, it is protected to prevent overfishing, so that their reproductive cycles are respected.

Failure to comply with this measure will result in fines.
