Luxembourg Council Meeting Focused on CAP Reform

EU - Reform of the CAP formed the main topic of discussion at the EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council this week.

The 3249th meeting on the Agriculture and Fisheries Council in Luxembourg on 24 and 25 June focused on the outcome of the trilogues on the proposals for the direct payments regulation, the single common market organisation (CMO) regulation, the rural development regulation and the horizontal regulation within the framework of reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP).

The Presidency presented a summary of the issues cleared in the trilogue discussion; on this basis, ministers debated to adjust of the negotiating mandate to finalise the discussions with a view to a political agreement with the other EU institutions on the CAP reform package.

Finally, the ministers were briefed on the consequences for agriculture of recent flooding in several member states in central and eastern Europe.
