Key speakers announced for Asian-Pacific Aquaculture

A senior Indian politician and Singapore’s ambassador to Oman have been chosen as the plenary speakers for APA2019.

The first plenary speaker at APA2019, which will be hosted at the Chennai Trade Center (CTC) on 19-21 June, is Theng Dar Teng, Singapore’s Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. He will to introduce the conference theme “Aquaculture for health, wealth and happiness”, offering the outlook for global aquaculture up to 2030.

Teng is a well-known figure in the ASEAN Region. As well as being the ambassador to Oamn since 2008, in Japan he advises the Shizuoka Prefecture Government and Miyagi Prefecture Government on aquaculture, hi-tech farming, and foodtech.

The second plenary speaker is Shri Tarun Shridhar, India’s Secretary to the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries. His talk will highlight the potential of Indian aquaculture. As Joint Secretary (Fisheries) in the Union Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare from 2008 to 2013 he was instrumental in introducing specific pathogen-free L. vannamei shrimp culture in India, making the country a major global shrimp producer.

The deadline for submission of papers for presentations at APA19 is February 28, 2019.
