Iceland's Fish Catch Up from Previous Year

ICELAND - The total catch of Icelandic vessels in March 2012 was 193,296 tonnes compared to 118,208 tonnes in March 2011.

Demersal species accounted for 46,000 tonnes, thereof cod nearly 24,000 tonnes, haddock 6,000 tonnes, redfish nearly 8,000 tonnes and saithe nearly 4000 tonnes. The pelagic catch was 143,000 tonnes, thereof capelin 141,000 tonnes and herring 824 tonnes.

At constant prices the volume of the catch increased by 21.2 per cent in March 2012 compared with March 2011.
