YonhapNewsAgency reports that fisheries production amounted to 3.25 million tons last year, compared with 3.11 million tons caught a year earlier, according to the report by Statistics Korea.
The output was worth 8.09 trillion won (US$7.18 billion), up nine per cent from 2010, the report showed.
The amount of fish caught in coastal waters jumped 9.1 per cent on-year to 1.24 million tons and played a role in pushing up overall output. The gain was attributed to an overall rise in water temperature that helped draw more fish.
Deep-water fishing, however, plunged 14.6 per cent to 506,000 tons, affected mostly by overall dwindling maritime resources, the report showed.
