The Crown Estate’s annual awards scheme recognises innovation and best practice in the Scottish marine aquaculture industry. The judges said they were particularly impressed by Blueshell Mussels and the company’s ‘sheer drive’ in ensuring business growth.
Blueshell Mussels, who are a member of the Scottish Shellfish Marketing Group (SSMG), also won the ‘Innovation Award’ and the ‘Best Shellfish Farm Award’.
Michael Laurenson of Blueshell said: “We are delighted to have won these awards, which is a direct recognition of the hard work put in by all our employees. We are continually looking at ways to improve the business and winning these awards will spur us onto even greater efforts in the future.”
The judges said Blueshell showed excellent business acumen during every stage of their operation.
“The continuous fine-tuning of practices to ensure production efficiency, teamed with a wealth of knowledge on the local environment and its influences on their product quality combined to provide an outstanding example of shellfish production at the cutting edge,” they said.
Stephen Cameron, managing director of SSMG, said: “Innovation and determination are at the very heart of the philosophy of Blueshell. We are delighted that their hard work has won this deserved recognition.”
