Future fishery offers hope

CANADA - Ocean Choice International and High Liner Seafoods are anxious to have their purchase arrangements formalized.

The final documents are being prepared by legal counsel. The Fishery Products International shareholders have voted overwhelming to sell the company.

The employees are looking for a return to some stability in their lives after 6-7 years of nothing but turmoil under the John Risley-led Board of Directors.

It’s understandable many of the workers are still leery about their futures in the industry, an industry many have toiled at for over 30 years, and have been treated what many called ‘unfairly’ over the last few years.

Then there’s the Town of Fortune, which seems to have shucked away during the finalization of the sale agreements. The provincial government had insisted OCI agree to a purchase arrangement of that plant for Cooke Aquaculture of New Brunswick.
