Gibran Huzaifah, a fish farmer-turned-agriculture tech entrepreneur, who founded and is now the head of eFishery, made the list for revolutionizing the relatively untapped $5.4 billion-valued Indonesian aquaculture market, wrote Ahmad Zamroni for Forbes.
The Indonesian firm has developed a cloud-based smart feeding technology system, which has already been deployed by 20,000 fish and shrimp farms across the archipelago, adjusting the amount of given feed according to data collected. The startup says it can reduce the amount of feed fish farmers use by 21%.
Its core product is an internet-connected device that can feed fish automatically, sense their appetite and adjust the amount of feed accordingly. This not only reduces feed wastage and improve growth rates but also allows farmers to control feeding remotely, directly from their smartphone or laptop.
“Feeding practices today are hardly efficient and make up 70-80% of total operating costs,” Huzaifah told Forbes. “People are still doing their agriculture in the same way as they did decades ago, which is partly causing poverty and hunger.”
