Fisheries sector well prepared for integration

VIETNAM - Having experienced the difficulties of the market mechanism, the Vietnamese fisheries sector is now fully capable of integrating into the global economy, and is prepared to face increased competition and more regular trade barriers.

The remark was made by Minister of Fisheries Ta Quang Ngoc while talking with the Vietnam News Agency on opportunities for Vietnamese aquatic products after the country's admission in the World Trade Organisation (WTO).

According to the minister, Vietnam's full WTO membership will open up many chances for aquatic products to enter the world market. They include the preferential tariff, and equal treatment for Vietnamese products whenever trade disputes occur.

After a long time striving to survive difficulties in the global market, Vietnamese aquatic products have gained a foothold and had experience in coping with trade barriers. Vietnam has become one of the 10 top seafood exporters in the world. Vietnamese seafood have been appreciated in choosy markets like the EU, the US, Canada, the Republic of Korea and Japan.
