Through this management plan, prepared by the National Fisheries Institute (INAPESCA) and operated by the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), SAGARPA lays the foundation for the management, conservation, protection and sustainable use of these fisheries.
Under this Management Plan, biological studies of populations of mullet (Mugil cephalus) and lebrancha (Mugil curema) will be studied to determine the current areas of reproduction, breeding and feeding organisms.
It will also provide more precise population dynamics of these resources throughout the year to determine their spatial and temporal distribution.
It will also include updated information regarding their reproductive cycles, growth and biomass (volume) information, which may evaluate different scenarios to determine closure periods to assist with the conservation and use of the fish.
The paper also considers the development of studies on trapping methods, with the aim of establishing the proper use of fishing gear that allows for only the removal of individuals that have sufficient size.
