AUSTRALIA - Huon Aquaculture announces it is the first Australian salmon producer to join the ranks of the Global Salmon Initiative (GSI).

The GSI is a global initiative founded and lead by salmon producers and is dedicated to determining the best measures by which the sector can grow sustainably.

“The Global Salmon Initiative is a vital element of our industry as all over the world we are experiencing the same growth trends and need to work together on the most sustainable ways to meet rising demand,” said Huon Aquaculture co-founder and owner, Frances Bender.

Since the 1980s, global consumption of salmon has tripled, with salmon aquaculture now the fastest growing food production system in the world. The GSI and its members are dedicated to ensuring that industry growth is equipped to deal with rising demand for alternative sources of protein and population growth in a sustainable and socially responsible way.

Achieving the highest standards of corporate citizenship is vital to ensuring the salmon industry can continue to grow and provide multiple benefits for its consumers and communities. The GSI described us as a company with new technologies, improved information and knowledge, coupled with a strong desire to be a world leader in farming practices at the heart of our approach.
