This was revealed in a book titled Fisheries on the Economies of Pacific Island Countries and Territories, which was launched in Vanuatu by the Pacific Community (SPC).
SPC consultant Robert Gillett said findings of the study showed there were no significant increase in coastal fisheries production despite indications of increased fishing pressure at national level, reported the FijiTimes.
"This is consistent with the thesis that the fish resources that support coastal fisheries in the region are fully or over-exploited," Mr Gillet said.
"Even though people are fishing more, the amount of fish that are being caught is actually decreasing slightly.
The report also found that the value of fisheries and aquaculture production in Fiji was estimated at $250.9m in 2014 and contributed to 1.83 per cent of Fiji's gross domestic product.
