Dorado Fishing Ban Ends in Ecuador

ECUADOR - The 7 October marked the end of the closure season for dorado(Coryphaena hippurus), which was established by Ministerial Agreement 070, on 19 May, 2011.

During the closure period from 1 July to 7 October, the Control Directorate of Fisheries held land and sea operations to determine compliance with the ban.

Nationally, the control team seized 453 units of dorado, which were donated to care homes.

The Control Director of Fisheries said the ban on capturing dorado with a size less than 80 inches total length will continue throughout the year.

The use of longline gear "fine" or "doradero" J-hooks with numbers 3, 4, 5, and circle hooks also C14 - C15 was banned during the closure period.
