Clare Oyster Producers Organise Group Clean Up

Welfare Sustainability Oysters +7 more

IRELAND - Oyster Producers in the North Shannon region came together recently under the Coordinated Local Aquaculture Management Systems or (C.L.A.M.S), to organise a clean up in conjunction with Bord Iascaigh Mhara (BIM), the Seafood Development Agency.

C.L.A.M.S groups are located all around the Irish coast and were set up by BIM to introduce the concept of Single Bay Management.

The North Shannon C.L.A.M.S group consists of all local aquaculture producers from Riniville, Carrigaholt and Poulnasherry areas in Co. Clare.

Oysters have been successfully grown in Co. Clare since the 1970s. Maintaining a tidy and clean foreshore has always been a priority for all the oyster producers along the North Shannon coastline.

"The commitment of oyster producers to the maintenance of their pristine working environment is self evident and this organised clean up through their local C.L.A.M.S group further demonstrates the respect local producers have for their working environment," commented Catherine Butler, BIM Aquaculture Officer.
