Chile Invests Over $2 billion in Los Lagos Region in 2016

CHILE - In 2016, Chile allocated more than two billion pesos to the fishing and aquaculture industries in the Los Lagos region.

A total of $2,116,439 million was allocated by the Fisheries Administration Fund and, in addition, the Regional Government contributed $630 billion. This is the largest investment in the region in history, doubling the amount spent in 2015.

As in previous years, this funding continued to support diversification and productive development, a line in which $1,176 million were invested. In addition, $650 million was allocated to artisanal fishing affected by the red tide phenomenon, $150 million for the Pelillo Grassland Renewal Program, $77 million in contribution to recreational fishing and $63,439 million in the renewable energy program.

One of the main lines in the red tide program was the adaptation of artisanal crafts dedicated to the extraction of molluscs, to support productive diversification towards crustacean fisheries.
