Aquaculture expo to bring together farmers, experts and exporters

INDIA - The third aquaculture expo will be held in Chennai from January 11 to 13 bringing together farmers, exporters, international experts and government officials after a gap of 12 years.

The INDAQUA will showcase aquaculture activities, address issues affecting the sector, create awareness of best management practices among farmers and create new investment opportunities.

According to industry experts and government officials of the Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA), the focus is back on the aquaculture sector that has made significant contributions to India's seafood exports recently.

Kuruvilla Thomas, director (marketing) of the MPEDA, told mediapersons on Tuesday that out of Rs. 7,200 crore worth seafood exported last year, aquaculture products contributed 50 per cent in terms of value.

The expo, to be inaugurated at the Chennai Trade Centre by Governor Surjit Singh Barnala, will feature nearly 120 exhibitors showcasing the features of hatcheries, feed mills and machinery manufacturing.
