Lantra, which took over from the Sustainable Aquaculture Innovation Centre as host of the Women in Scottish Aquaculture (WiSA) programme last year, has announced the opening of applications for the 2025 cohort.

"We are pleased to announce the opening of the 2025 aquaculture mentoring programme. This continued investment in skills development for the industry helps to secure a sustainable and innovative future for Scottish aquaculture," said Jill Couto-Phoenix, head of aquaculture at Lantra, in a press release.

The nine-month mentoring programme provides an opportunity for training and professional development, for both mentees and mentors, with support from a career coach throughout. It aims to connect professionals who are aspiring leaders with experienced mentors from across the aquaculture industry.

By providing the space for mentorship and development, Lantra aims to ensure the creation of equal opportunities within the aquaculture industry. By fostering these mentoring relationships, the scheme will support participants in developing their skills, building their confidence, and navigating career progression within aquaculture.

The programme, which is fully funded for participants due to Crown Estate Scotland sponsorship, is open to professionals who are passionate about making a difference in the industry and looking to transition into leadership roles as they advance in their careers.

To apply as a mentor, an individual must currently reside in Scotland, have at least three years experience in the sector, and must be currently be involved in an an aquaculture-related role.

To apply as a mentee, an individual must be working in, or studying, an aquaculture-related field in Scotland, and must have a desire to learn about professional progression.

Applications for the programme will close on 24 February 2025.
