The scientific report notes that the increase in stock biomass has reached a level of 14,133 tonnes Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for 2013, compared with 9,280 tonnes agreed for 2012. For the Spanish fleet, 2,019 tons for 2013 was confirmed. In 2012 the ammount was 1,328 tonnes.
Regarding the black halibut fishery, which has been subject to a recovery plan, the TAC has been reduced by five per cent for 2013.
This decision will allow the stock to recover in the long term. Spain has a quota of 4,261 tonnes.
With respect to other species, Spain has a redfish quota 233 tonnes in Division 3M. Simillary, in the third division of the Grand Banks 1,771 has been allocated to Spain.
Spanish Cod Quota Increases by 50 Per cent
SPAIN - During the 34th annual meeting of the North Atlantic Fisheries Organisation (NAFO), which took place from 17 to 21 September in St. Petersburg, Russia, the positive trend in the recovery of the cod stock in Canadian Newfoundland waters was confirmed. This followed the reopening of the fishery in Division 3M, known as Flemish Cap area in 2010.
