Contrary to the hope that the dumping allegations against a number of shrimp exporter nations, including Viet Nam, would bring more benefit to US farmers, prices of shrimp in the US market recorded their lowest levels in recent months.
The lawsuit, however, caused the volume of shrimp imported to the US market to decrease by 19 percent in the January - July period.
US Department of Commerce (DOC) officials have finished their investigation of Viet Nam, ahead of November's final verdict in the shrimp dumping case, said Nguyen Van Kich, chairman of Viet Nam's Shrimp Committee.
He said the delegation was pleased with the results of their investigation because of the cooperative attitude of the four Vietnamese defendants.
Almost all Vietnamese defendants, including Cafatex, Minh Hai, Minh Phu and Camimex, passed the DOC's complicated verification processes. This will prove Viet Nam was not dumping shrimp on the US market, Kich said.
