In 2006, pilot farming of salmon was started in some areas of the province and the results were encouraging, reports the Vietnamese military.
The mass farming of the fish has since been conducted by local households and businesses.
There are now eight businesses involved with a total capacity of some 200 tons per year.
Farming this fish can bring relatively high profit to farmers, yet they still have to import special food and breeding and production costs are still high.
