Stop order expands on Vietnamese fish
ALABAMA - Alabama's agriculture commission expanded a stop sale order on Vietnamese fish Thursday to include a product mislabeled as "Wild Caught Grouper."
Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks in August issued a stop sale order on all Vietnamese farm-raised fish and seafood products in the state of Alabama to include grouper, sole and flounder.
He said Thursday's action is a result of continued testing of Vietnamese brands of fish by his department.
The original stop sale order in August was for more than 200,000 pounds of product, which included about 115,000 pounds that was mislabeled as "Vietnam Wild Caught Sole." The product was actually pangasius hypothalamus, also known as "sutchi catfish."
