In October, Norwegian seafood exports were up in value by 32 per cent or NOK 1.8 billion compared to the same month last year.
“The strong seafood exports in October are primarily attributable to three circumstances,” said Egil Ove Sundheim, director of market information with the Norwegian Seafood Council.
“Demand for Norwegian Salmon often outpaces production, which results in higher prices. Secondly, the aquaculture industry sold a larger volume of Norwegian Salmon in October than in the same month last year. And thirdly, exports of Mackerel from Norway to Asia increased in October.”
This year to date, the value of Norwegian seafood exports totals NOK 48.4 billion. This is an increase of NOK 6.3 billion or 15 per cent, according to figures from the Norwegian Seafood Council.
Record exports of Norwegian Salmon
The value of exports of Norwegian Salmon in October totalled no less than NOK 4.2 billion. This is the best valuation ever of Norwegian Salmon exports in a single month and represents an increase of NOK 1.6 billion or 60 per cent compared to October last year.
France, Poland and Russia were the biggest importers of Norwegian Salmon.
Exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout in October increased in value by 51 per cent or NOK 88 million to a total of NOK 262 million. For the year to date, the value of exports of Norwegian Fjord Trout totals NOK 1.9 billion. This is an increase of NOK 469 million compared to the same period in 2012. The biggest importers of Norwegian Fjord Trout are Russia and Belarus.
Exports of mackerel up, herring down
Mackerel exports increased in value by NOK 306 million or 33 per cent to a total of NOK 1.2 billion.
This year to date, mackerel exports are down in value by NOK 154 million to a total of NOK 2.3 billion. The most important markets for mackerel exports are Russia and China.
The value of Norwegian herring exports in October totalled NOK 312 million. This is a drop of 9 per cent or NOK 31 million compared to October last year.
The value of Norwegian herring exports so far this year totals NOK 2.1 billion, down by NOK 1.1 billion or 33 per cent compared to the same period last year. The biggest markets for Norwegian herring are Russia and Germany.
Exports of clipfish down, salted fish up
Clipfish exports fell in value in October by NOK 198 million to a total of NOK 346 million. A breakdown of this figure shows that Norwegian Cod clipfish accounted for NOK 194 million and Norwegian Saithe clipfish NOK 118 million, with the remainder accounted for by ling, torsk and other groundfish. The biggest market for Norwegian Cod clipfish is Portugal, while Brazil is the biggest market for Norwegian Saithe clipfish.
Exports of salted fish including fillets in October totalled NOK 56 million, up by NOK 21 million from October last year. Of this figure, Norwegian Cod accounted for NOK 43 million, ling NOK 7 million and torsk NOK 4.5 million. Portugal is the biggest market for salted fish from Norway.
Exports of fresh and frozen Norwegian Cod exports up
Exports of fresh Norwegian Cod from fishery including fillets increased by NOK 2.5 million in October to a total of NOK 38 million. October exports of frozen Norwegian Cod including fillets were also up, by NOK 77 million to a total of NOK 185 million.
