The Japanese electronics giant revealed this week that it plans to run the land-based facility using Internet of Things technology.
In the 12-month trial, which started this month, water quality and temperature data collected from sensors set up inside tanks, are sent to smartphones and other devices to enable remote monitoring of the tanks, according to the Jiji Press.
The facility is located in Kamoenai, a village in Hokkaido, and the project is being jointly operated with Coast Research Engineering Co, which conducts biological research and other operations.
