The state of Paraná has significant water resources - tributaries of the Paraná River, of which the most extensive are the Paranapanema, which marks the border with São Paulo, and the Iguaçu, which is partly the limit with Santa Catarina and Argentina.
For Attila Maia, the development of fish farming in the state - in cages in hydroelectric reservoirs and in ponds on farms - can greatly leverage the production of Paraná.
During March, the Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture receives proposals from municipalities and local consortia to provide equipment for the opening of excavated tanks, suitable for breeding of fish in family farms.
Attila Maia also highlighted other measures to encourage aquaculture, including the Harvest Plan, which allocates $ 4.1 billion for the sector.
The minister said he has the support of the state government and the mobilisation of Paraná municipalities to streamline the environmental permit in the state, which is one of the biggest obstacles to the development of aquaculture.
He said the ministry is committed to promoting tilapia, a species which is very productive and has a wide market acceptance, in the Itaipu Reservoir.
Recently, IBAMA, with the support of the MPA, released tambaqui farms in Tocantins River.
