OIE: Epizootic Ulcerative Syndrome Outbreak Reported

SOUTH AFRICA - A new outbreak of epizootic ulcerative syndrome has been reported to the OIE by Dr Bothle Michael Modisane, Chief Director , Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Animal Production and Health, PRETORIA, South Africa.

There has been one new outbreak of Epizootic ulcerative syndrome reported to the OIE on 14/11/2011.

The outbreak, effecting fresh water sharptooth catfish, occured at EUS2011_WCP_002, Stellenbosch, WESTERN CAPE PROVINCE

The outbreak effects the whole country.

So far, the outbreak has resulted in 14 cases leading to 14 deaths.

The morbidity and mortality is one on a scale of zero to five.

The source of the outbreak is unknown

control measures being applied are no vaccination and no treatment of affected animals.
