OIE: Crayfish Plague Reported In Italy
ITALY - An outbreak of Crayfish plague (Aphanomyces astaci) has been reported to the OIE by Dr Romano Marabelli, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department for Veterinary Public Health, Nutrition and Food Safety, Ministry of Health, Rome, Italy.
There has been one outbreak of Crayfish plague reported to the OIE.
The outbreaked occured at Crognaleto, Teramo, ABRUZZO
The outbreak is effecting European freshwater crayfish and is currently effecting a defined zone within the country.
So far, the outbreak has resulted in six cases, leading to six deaths.
The source of the outbreak is continuing/unknown.
Control measures currently being applied include:
- No vaccination
- No treatment of affected animals
