Mr Schmidt will give a presentation titled “Green Growth and Implications for Fisheries and Aquaculture.”
As head of the Fisheries Policies Division in the OECD’s Directorate for Trade and Agriculture since August 2001, Mr Schmidt is in charge of the OECD’s fisheries-related work and oversees the group’s Committee for Fisheries. He is also member of the management team of the Directorate for Trade and Agriculture and participates in a number of international forums representing the OECD and its work on fisheries, the oceans and natural resources management.
Mr Schmidt has been with the OECD since 1982, first as administrator and then as principal administrator. In 1997 and 1998, he helped establish the Marine Stewardship Council. Mr. Schmidt holds a master’s degree in economics and political science from Copenhagen School of Economics and Business Administration and a postgraduate certificate of advanced European studies from the College of Europe in Bruges, Belgium.
More than 40 speakers and panelists are scheduled to participate in GOAL 2013. Day one of GOAL 2013 will focus on production data for Atlantic salmon, shrimp, Pangasius, tilapia, mussels, and sea bass and sea bream, while day two will focus on feed sustainability and aquaculture growth opportunities in the Middle East and Africa. Day three will focus on the marketplace, with many of the world’s leading retailers discussing the challenges and opportunities they face.
