Novartis Puts CA$1.3 Million into Fish Health Chair

CANADA - Swiss pharmaceutical giant Novartis has handed $1.3 million to Charlottetown's Atlantic Veterinary College to fund a research chair in fish health.

The money covers salary and a portion of research costs over five years, reports

Dean Don Reynolds said Tuesday the new chair should help AVC establish itself in the world of research.

"Our ultimate goal is to be the pre-eminent academic institution on a worldwide basis," Reynolds told

It is vital that fish farm operatives who are responsible for farmed fish are trained in their health and welfare. This will help to ensure that fish are free from disease and suffering whilst at the same time promote good productivity and comply with legislation.
