Norway Sails Through Record Fish Exports...Again

NORWAY - For the fifth year in a row seafood exports from Norway have increased, totalling a record 39 billion. NOK in 2008.

In volume the total export in 2008 was 2,3 million tons, an increase of 167 000 tons compared to 2007. The total value increased by 2,3 bn. NOK from 2007 to 2008, reports the Norwegian Seafood Export Council.

Fish Farming Xpert reported that despite the financial crisis, the Export Council register that the international demand for Norwegian seafood is increasing. CEO Terje Martinussen says that this is very good news for the seafood industry in Norway. Russia and France were the biggest customers in 2008. Another intersting fact is that the share of farmed fish in the total export value, exceeds 20 bn. NOK. Salmon alone stands for 18 bn.
