Norway and Russia Cooperate on Seafood Exports

NORWAY and RUSSIA - The Norwegian Food Safety Authority and the Russian veterinary authorities held a meeting on 21 December 2012 to discuss Norwegian seafood exports to Russia.

During 2012, the Russian veterinary authorities and the Norwegian Food Safety Authority held a series of meetings on the export of seafood from Norway.

On the 21 December, the parties met again in Moscow. The theme of the meeting this time was primarily the design and implementation of the new certification form for export of seafood from Norway, which will be introduced from 1 February 2013.

In the meeting, the forthcoming revision of the Norwegian Food Safety Authority on seafood area and the industry's own procedures to meet the requirements of Russian customers and Russian legislation were also discussed.

The conclusion of the talks was that in 2012, a good foundation for the future of seafood exports to Russia has been laid.

"Cooperation between the two countries is on the right track," said the leader of the Norwegian delegation, deputy director of supervision at the FSA, Ole Fjetland. "It provides a sound basis for future seafood export from Norway."
