This ban will be implemented by the Socialist Institute of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Insopesca) and applies to the months of January, February and March 2014.
Just catching sardines for bait is excepted.
The resolution also determines that the minimum catch size of the species is 19 centimeters (cm) and a maximum of 10 per cent of the fish caught in each catch can be below that measure.
Thus it is expected that the species can maintain its reproductive cycles and maintain its population at optimal levels.
In regards to catching sardines for bait, they must not be less than 15 cm in length.
The Bolivarian Government will be working together with artisan producers, to inspect each landing of sardines and set the fishing gear allowed for this resource.
Also, the volume of exports will be determined by Insopesca, based on the current state of the resource.
