Multiexport's Production Decreased In Third Quarter

CHILE - Despite the ongoing repurcussions of the 2008 ISA virus outbreak, Multiexport has managed sales of 9,971 tonnes of salmon and trout raw material (WFE) in the third quarter of this year, however it is still a 29.4 per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2008, when sales were 14,115 tonnes.

The company was ranked fourth among the Chilean salmon producers last year with exports worth US $167.3 millions. According to the third quarter report, production decreased by 78 per cent to 3,423 tons (WFE) compared to the same period in 2008.

Multiexport showed a loss of $3.1 million in the third quarter of 2009, compared to a loss of $29.4 million in the same period of 2008. The effects of the ISA virus outbreak are still affecting frozen sales. The company's stock of live salmon were affected due to mortality as well as for safety precautions during the fourth quarter of 2008.

The company's total income was $43.0 million in the third quarter of 2009, compared to $62.5 million in the same period in 2008, representing a 31.1 per cent decrease. For the first nine months of 2009, the company reported operating revenues of $132.8 million, compared to $160.2 million in the first nine months of the last year. Multiexport's EBITDA was $0.7 million in 3Q 2009, compared to a loss of $12.4 million in 3Q 2008.
