Mexico Achieves Seafood Consumption Increase Three Years Early

MEXICO - The fisheries and aquaculture sector in Mexico has registered production of 1,700,000 tons annually, said the National Commissioner of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA), Mario Aguilar Snchez .

The federal official noted that public policies implemented by the President of the Republic, Enrique Peña Nieto, have boosted consumer promotion of domestic marine and aquaculture products which has allowed the six-year goal of increasing annual per capita consumption of seafood by 3.1 kg, to be reached in three years.

He said that at the beginning of this Federal Administration the annual per capita consumption of seafood was 8.9 kg and at the end of 2015 intake was 12 kg.
