According to a report in The Coaster, the aquaculture industry in the region of English Harbour West, Harbour Breton and Hermitage is expanding.
Will Reid from the FFAW told The Coaster that harvesters want to have a say in whether or not they want aquaculture sites in particular areas or not. He said that there already has been cooperation between fish harvesters and company officials in the area.
"I think the vast majority of harvesters support aquaculture," Mr Reid told The Coaster.
"There already has been some dialogue between companies and fishers and some companies have adjusted sites and cleaned up sites after listening to fishers' concerns."
Jennifer Caines, an official with Northern Harvest Sea Farms and the President of NAIA said that it was important that aquaculture companies consult with fish harvesters.
Ms. Caines said that both industries can work on common issues through a good process of dialogue and communication.
