Jacobo Regalado, Minister of Agriculture of Honduras, officially opened the newly built plant at an event attended by executives from the participating companies.
Viggo Halseth, Chief Operating Officer of Nutreco Aquaculture, commented: "The Aquafeed plant is an important step in the Nutreco strategy ‘Ambition 2016’. Production here is aligned with our strategy to increase our market share in Latin America and to increase sales of feed for non-salmon species. The partnership in Honduras is a consequence of the acquisition of Gisis in Ecuador which was finalised in June 2013."
Steven Rafferty, Managing Director Skretting Americas and UK, added: "This is an excellent opportunity for us as the global leader in aquafeeds to cooperate with the world leading tilapia producer, Regal Springs, with activities in Indonesia and Mexico as well as Honduras. Both companies have a reputation for innovation and a focus on sustainability. These qualities are supported by our third partner in this venture, Gisis of Ecuador, with its long experience of producing high quality feed for tilapia and shrimp. I believe that the combination of expertise will provide a platform for growth and an expansion of Skretting knowledge in tilapia and shrimp, providing a platform for further growth in Latin America and other geographies.”
