"Seafood Champions are stewards and leaders who serve as important voices for a healthy ocean," said Dawn M. Martin, president of SeaWeb. "Through innovation and leadership, Seafood Champions are paving a path for a healthy seafood marketplace. We look forward to receiving a strong and varied pool of nominees to join with other Seafood Champions in leading voices for a healthy ocean."
The Seafood Champion Awards ceremony will be held at the 10th International Seafood Summit in Hong Kong, 6-8 September, 2012.
SeaWeb's annual seafood summit brings together global representatives from the seafood industry and the conservation community for in-depth discussions, presentations and networking with the goal of making the seafood marketplace environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.
The theme of the 10th International Seafood Summit is "Evolving solutions for new horizons," with issues ranging from food security and keystone species, including sharks, tuna, and salmon, to supply chain traceability issues; Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing; artisanal fisheries, and social capital.
The summit is attended by a diverse group of seafood industry professionals and has grown exponentially, with the past two summits being completely sold out.
The deadline to submit a nomination has been extended to 11:59pm EST May 14, 2012. For more information, visit www.seafoodchoices.org/whatwedo/champions or email Kirby Rootes-Murdy at krootesmurdy@seaweb.org.
