The US-based aquaculture technology and solutions company Innovasea has announced the expansion of its operations to Iceland, where its land-based aquaculture systems are now available on the market. This adds to the company’s growing global presence, with operations already in Canada, Norway, and Australia.
“We are excited to bring our expertise, equipment, and engineering know-how to the area. Iceland has shown a commitment to sustainable aquaculture, and we are proud to help advance this mission,” said Innovasea vice president Marc Turano, in a press release.
The company’s arrival to Iceland comes through Thor Salmon – a land-based salmon producer – which is installing Innovasea’s Gas Management Towers (GMT) at its Icelandic smolt rearing facility. The GMTs provide a solution to oxygenation which uses gravity, rather than pressure, to move water, resulting in energy savings of up to 77 percent.
“Our collaboration with Innovasea offers us an efficient, state-of-the-art gas management solution that will play an important role in producing outstanding salmon smolts in our smolt facility. This is part of our journey of producing 20,000 metric tons of salmon annually,” explained Thor Salmon co-founder Jonatan Thordarson.
Innovasea’s new Icelandic operations will be conducted out of its existing Norway office.
