Industry Invited to Help Establish Lobster Conservation Areas

NORWAY - Interested coastal municipalities are being invited to take part in the process of establishing new conservation areas for lobster.

"The average number of lobsters caught per day in a pot in the sea tells us about the development of the lobster fishery and the stocks," said Director of Fisheries Liv Holmefjord.

Behind the regulations currently in force is a goal of achieving an average catch of 10 lobsters per 100 days. This goal has not been reached. Catch per day a pot in the sea has indeed increased somewhat in recent years and extensive use of new and more efficient trapping traps must be assumed to explain much of this increase.
