CHILE - The ornamental fish industry is a business with prospects for social and economic growth for 20 states in Chile, where more than 100 species and varieties are grown.

Figures from the National Commission of Aquaculture and Fisheries (CONAPESCA) state that in 10 years the market grew by 250 per cent, especially the species molly, cichlid, guppy, carp, sword, pleco, catfish, platys, gouramis, tetras and betas, among others.

This growth is because fans of the hobby consider that fish of many colours are synonymous with wellness, relaxation and happiness, besides being a educational option for children.
