Heavy rains wash away 100 coastal shrimp farms
QATAR - Incessant rain over the last five days and water from India has washed away over 100 shrimp farms in the coastal districts of Shyamnagar, Ashadhun, Kaliganj and Devhata in southwestern Satkhira district.
Floodwater also submerged low-lying areas in Satkhira town, including Kamalnagar, Rasulpur, Palashpol and Kukhrai, inflicting sufferings on thousands of people.
Chairman of Gabura union in Shyamnagar said around 25 villages of his union, adjoining the Sundarbans, stand threatened as the rivers are in spate.
