Have Your Say On Cod Catch Consultation

Cod Sustainability Politics +4 more

UK - The Marine Management Organisation (MMO) is calling for opinions on the consultation over the Area VIId cod quota. Two options have been decided so far. with the final option being confirmed after the 19 September 2011.

The consultation for the management of Area VIId cod took place in January 2011. The results were to close the fishery in April leaving some quota for the end of the year. The current quota allocation for cod in the area for the under 10 metre fleet is 55.7 tonnes with 39 tonnes remaining to fish.

We are seeking views to decide the best way forward for the remaining allocation and have suggested the two options below.

Option 1

Open the fishery on 1 October with a monthly catch limit of 150 kg per vessel per month. There will be no guarantee how long the quota will last as this is dependent upon uptake levels.

Option 2

Open the fishery on 1 November with a monthly catch limit of 200 kg per vessel per month. Again there will be no guarantees of how long the quota will last as this is dependent upon uptake levels.

We would be grateful if you would email the option you prefer by 12 noon on Monday 19 September 2011 to catchlimits@marinemanagement.org.uk

If you would like to suggest alternatives, please do so by the same date.
