Brian Wisner, director of fish production in the Bureau of Fisheries, said the project engineer – HDR/FishPro of Omaha, Neb. – has scheduled the work for next year, but he told The Tribunme Democrat that it will take longer to get the necessary state permits.
When the $7.2 million renovation project is finished, the open ponds that have produced millions of fish to support the annual spring trout season will be replaced by circular steel tanks inside roofed-over structures.
Instead of flowing through the hatchery and into Stone Creek, water used by the facility will be captured, cleaned and used again.
Mr Wisner said the changes will make fish production more efficient.
Go-ahead for Trout Hatchery Renovation
US - Bedford Countys Reynoldsdale trout hatchery is expected to be renovated in 2010, if not in 2009 according to the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.
