Organised by Skretting, the conference will run between the seventh to the ninth of September.
With an increase in the HPR0 strain of the ISA virus being found on Chilean farms, the topic is one of much interest. As of July, 23 farms had been tested positive with that strain of the virus.
Mr Christiansen is currently heading up the National Laboratory for Fish and Animal Diseases, part of the Food and Veterinary Agency of the Faroe Islands.
He will display his latest research at the conference.
This particular strain of the virus, HPR0, was detected in 2006. Since then the virus has followed the same infection pattern.
The virus has been found in sea and freshwater Atlantic salmon .
Mr Christiansen describes the virus as a low pathogenic variant of the more common ISA virus, with high prevalence and which causes a non clinical transitory infection seen in Atlantic salmon.
Research in the Faroe Islands has identified two subtypes of the HPR0 ISA strain, one of which shows close genetic association with the ISA virus responsible for the outbreak in Chile.
