David Milne Re-elected as Chairman of Scottish White Fish Producers Association

Environment

UK - Fraserburgh skipper David (Davy) Milne has been re-elected as Chairman of the Scottish White Fish Producers Association (SWFPA) in a move that underlines the widespread respect he holds within the Association.

His re-election as Chairman at the Association’s recent AGM will be his third term in the role – during which time he has been ably supported by Vice-Chairman William (Bill) Wiseman, who was also re-elected for a further year in the deputy position.

Davy Milne skippers the Fraserburgh whitefish pair trawler Adorne and has been a skipper for the last 27 years. Bill Wiseman is a retired prawn skipper and fished latterly with the Lynden, a vessel he still owns but no longer fishes.

On accepting his re-election, Davy said: "It’s an honour to have the support of the members during a time which can only be described as the most challenging period ever. The output of the reform process of the Common Fisheries Policy means that much work needs be done over the coming years to ensure the business of fishing continues.”

Mike Park, Chief Executive of the SWFPA said: “Under Davy's stewardship the Association has grown in size in recent years to just under 200 vessels, a clear indication of the level of respect he carries from his fellow fishermen.

“The Association has performed strongly under Davy's leadership and we are incredibly fortunate to have someone of his ability willing to sacrifice his time onshore for the benefit of everyone. Our members are delighted that he has agreed to continue in his role."

The SWFPA is the largest constituent member of the Scottish Fishermen’s Federation (SFF).
